SHILLONG: The KHADC on Tuesday conducted a public hearing over the demand for immediate cancellation of the trading license of Meghalaya Agrovet Private Limited for carrying out unscientific poultry farming by discharging wastes directly into the Umtrew River in Ri-Bhoi district in blatant violation of environmental norms.

“We have held the public hearing to solicit the views of the villagers who are affected due to the operation of the firm. We have also invited representatives from the firms to give their point of view on the matter,” Executive Member in charge of Trade, Latiplang Kharkongor, said after the public hearing said.

He said that the KHADC has collected reports from various Government departments including the PHE, Forest and Environment and Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board on alleged violation of the environmental norms by the firm.

He also informed that the KHADC has constituted an inquiry into the matter.

“We will now be compiling the full report on this case by next week and take appropriate action as per the provisions of the law,” Kharkongor said.
