‘Himalaya Day’ celebrated

SHILLONG: Bethany Society celebrated ‘Himalaya Day’ at Laitmawsiang Secondary School, Raid Sawsymper, Mawsynram Block, on September 9.

The programme was attended by school students, teachers, local residents, students from Women’s College, Shillong and members of Bethany Society.

This celebration was supported by Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) under Sustainable Options for Uplifting Livelihoods (SOUL) Project.

The objective of this celebration is to conserve the mountainous region and the environment.

Dr. Collin Renthlei from the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textile, who was the chief guest, spoke about the importance of the Himalayas which supports and gives life for the entire country.

A poster competition was also organised on the occasion.
