4-laning project: Land owners yet to get compensation

SHILLONG: The Ri-Bhoi district administration is still waiting for the NHAI to release Rs 44 crore which was sanctioned to pay compensation to the land owners whose land had been acquired for widening of Shillong-Guwahati road (four-laning).

“The delay is due to the ongoing reassessment of the value of land which is being conducted as per the new Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013,” Deputy Commissioner Dr Pooja Pandey informed here on Tuesday.

She, however, informed that the NHAI was expected to deposit the full amount within the next few days.

Dr Pandey informed that the office has already started the disbursement of compensation to the land owners of eight villages out of the total 25 villages whose land has been acquired for the project. “We will try to complete the disbursement of compensation to the land owners of the eight villages as soon as possible,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

She however informed that the disbursement of the land compensation to the land owners of the remaining 17 villages would be done after receiving the money (Rs 44 crore).
