Moscow: Ukraine bears full responsibility for the tragedy of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, which crashed in the eastern region of that country earlier this year, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.
The Boeing 777-200 of the Malaysia Airlines en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed July 17 in UkraineÂ’s eastern Donetsk Region, some 60 km from the Russian border, in the zone of combat operations between the Donetsk self-defence forces and the Ukrainian army.
All 298 passengers and crew on board the aircraft.
“The accident took place in the airspace of Ukraine, which is fully responsible for it,” Shoigu said at a meeting in Moscow with his Malaysian counterpart Hishammuddin Hussein.
The Russian minister added that the tragedy with the Malaysian airliner could have been avoided if Ukraine had resolved its issues without military involvement.
The top Russian military official also said that Ukraine failed to answer all questions from the Russian defence ministry concerning the Boeing crash. (PTI)
