4 thieves nabbed

SHILLONG: City Police on Thursday arrested four people and recovered several stolen batteries from their possession.

East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang informed that on Thursday morning at 4 am, a Police Naka of Mawlai Police Station along with CRPF personnel intercepted a Swift Dzire Tourist Taxi (ML-05-H-8180) and on checking the vehicle, twenty-five batteries were found who had been stolen from a mobile tower in Ri-Bhoi District.

The arrested persons have been identified as Noor Muhammad Khan (25), Ranjan Barman (32), Sudip Acharjee (23 and Biswajit Roy (30), all residents from Bishnupur locality in the city.

Kharkrang further informed that one Ahat Ali of Kamrup Hajo, Assam, who runs a scrap business at Keating Road, Shillong has also been arrested for allegedly being involved in buying the stolen items.
