CEM’s public rally on Sept 19 to end political crisis in KHADC

SHILLONG: KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has decided to convene a public meeting on September 19 to make an announcement which he said will end the ongoing political crisis in the KHADC.

The KHADC CEM plans to hold the meeting at the Student’s Field, Jaiaw.

“I shall be making an announcement during the public meeting which will end the ongoing political crisis in the Council,” Basaiawmoit said while addressing newsmen here on Friday.

When asked if he was planning to quit, the KHADC CEM refused to divulge anything saying “You can make your own speculations.”

He said that he was fed up of being made a ‘centre of controversy’ during this month-long political crisis in the Council.

“I do not want to be held responsible if the ruling coalition in the Council (ARPA) collapses,” KHADC CEM said.

“Yes I respect the sentiments of the people. But I hope that the people will also respect my decision. I am not going to review my decision at any cost,” he said.

When ask that there are general feeling among many of the people that he should not have involved the general public in this whole political turmoil in the KHADC since the decision to form the ARPA was taken by MDCs themselves and not by the public, the KHADC CEM said that he has never called the people especially the vendors from Iewduh to come and agitate in the Council.

“It is spontaneous reaction of the people because they were against the demand to remove me as the CEM of the Council. I cannot tell people to close their shops for three days to come and agitate in the Council. They have done this because of their love for me,” Basaiawmoit said.

“So far, I have not reacted to the accusations made by the UDP MDCs. I will be clarifying all these things during the public meeting. People have the right to know the truth,” KHADC CEM said.

When asked if he was not creating a wrong precedence by allowing the people to agitate inside the Council, Basaiawmoit said that he totally disagrees that this is going to set a wrong precedence.

“Personally, this is setting a right predence. I think people should always come like this if they are not happy with the action of the elected representatives. This is called true democracy,” KHADC CEM added.

When pointed out that a similar wave was there in Delhi when Arvind Kejriwal became Chief Minister of that State, he said that he cannot be compared with Kejriwal.

“My policy to educate people against the various evils prevailing in our system is better than that of Kejriwal,” Basaiawmoit said.
