Inquiry ordered into supply of sub-standard PDS atta

SHILLONG: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Clement Marak, on Friday ordered an inquiry into the reports that sub- standard atta had been allegedly supplied to Shanti Bhawan, run by Missionaries of Charity, here under the PDS by the Supply department.
Marak informed that he has sought a detailed report from the officers of the department on the reports that sub- standard atta had been supplied to Shanti Bhawan.
“I have called up the Superintendent and inspectors and directed them to inquire into the matter,” he said.
According to Marak, the wheat which the department procures, comes from Chakki mills and it cannot be like flour mills.
As per the reports, the quota of four sacks of atta under PDS from the Office of DC (Supply) was supplied to the Missionaries of Charity for the use of the inmates of Shanti Bhawan end of last month. The PDS supplier hails from Garikhana.
Marak also said that if necessary, the packets can be sent to the laboratory for testing.
He also added that the department would not tolerate any such instances where sub- standard products are supplied to people even as he asked people to approach the concerned authorities if they find that sub- standard food items were being supplied under the PDS.
