Ahmedabad: Congress candidate from Vadodara Lok Sabha seat Narendra Ravat on Saturday landed himself in a controversy after clicking a ‘Modi-like’ selfie after casting his vote for the bypolls.
Mr Ravat cast his vote at a polling booth in Nava Yard railway colony area in Vadodara this morning and then posed for a selfie with a symbol of his party in his hand.
The sources said the election authorities are likely to order a probe into the matter whether the model code of conduct was violated.
However, Mr Ravat while defending his act said he did not break any law and he took his picture outside the polling booth. “I took my picture outside the booth. It was a symbolic act. I just wanted to give a message to the people of the country and Vadodara that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has betrayed the people of the city by vacating the seat,” Mr Ravat said. The Congress candidate said Mr Modi had said the Vadodara people will elect the Prime Minister but he left the seat even after winning with a huge margin of more than 5.70 lakh votes and retained Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh.
“Narendra Modi had said he will develop the Vishwamitri river but the river caused flood in Vadodara,” he added.
On reports that the Election Commission may probe against him, Mr Ravat said he did not violate any law and the commission can probe the matter.
Earlier, during polling for the general elections on April 30, Mr Modi had stirred up a controversy by clicking a picture with his party symbol near a polling booth in Ahmedabad. (UNI)
