NONGSTOIN: One Fret Nongphud (40) of Nong jlak village under Mawthadraishan Block in West Khasi Hills was allegedly murdered by an unknown miscreant and his body dumped into Laitasdad River at Myriaw village on September 11.
Police informed that Nongphud was a labourer and was suspected to be smuggling cannabis (ganja) to the Assam border.
Nongstoin Police has registered a murder case. The post-mortem was carried out on Sunday and the body was later handed over to the family.
Police said that attempts were being made to nab the culprit.
