TURA: East Garo Hills police believe that the elusive GNLA military chief Sohan D Shira has fled his hideout in the remote forests of Garo Hills and has crossed over to neighbouring Bangladesh to escape the ongoing operation launched by Meghalaya police under the code name ‘Operation Hill Storm’.

“We have credible info that Sohan has escaped to Bangladesh after all his established camps were destroyed by our forces in the jungles of Durama Hills. His cadres are in disarray and most of them have been split up in small groups of 15-20 members,” said police chief of East Garo Hills Davis Nestell R Marak.

Following the destruction of their hideouts the militants are believed to have been dispatched in small groups to the others districts of Garo Hills to escape the heat from the ongoing operations.
