RLD supporters block national highway, burn effigies

Muzaffarnagar: Rashtriya Lok Dal activists blocked the Delhi-Dehradun national highway at Bhagela checkpost here, protesting against the BJP government’s move of evicting party chief Ajit Singh from his official residence in Delhi. Ajit Rathi, district president of the party told media that hundreds of party activists blocked the Delhi-Dehradun national highway on Monday and burnt effigies of the BJP government which had recently sent an eviction team to the official residence of former Union minister Ajit Singh. Former minister Dharamvir Balyan, district vice-president Dharmender Tomour and former MLAs Rajpal Balyan and Pardeep Balyan also participated in the protests, Sethi added. Sethi threatened to stop water supply from Ganga canal to Delhi if the union government does not accept their demand of allotting the bungalow back to the party chief by September 18.0 (PTI)

Woman commits suicide after killing daughter

New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan after strangulating her 5-month-old daughter to death at her residence in Dwarka area of west Delhi. Police said that the incident took place last night when Rajni strangulated her daughter Drishya and then hanged herself inside her room. Rajni, who married Rinku three years ago, lived with her husband in Dwarka Sector- 15 of west Delhi. According to police, she was depressed for the last few months and the reason behind the extreme step of Rajni was yet to be ascertained as no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. “We are trying to ascertain the reason behind her extreme step as no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. Police are questioning her husband and in-laws to get some leads in the case,” said a senior police officer. Officer also said that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is on. (PTI)

NHRC notice to Delhi govt after boy drowns in a pit

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Delhi Government over drowning of a boy in a pit at Metro construction site. “The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a student of 8th class drowned while four others were rescued from a water pit made near a Metro construction site in Karkardooma, East Delhi on September 6,” the NHRC said. The locals alleged that the Metro Administration had left open pits which resulted in such incidents. The boy, identified as Kartik, aged 15 years, was the resident of Arya Nagar Colony in Karkardooma. He was returning home from the Sarvodaya school in the evening when he along with his friends decided to take a dip in the pit when this incident happened. Kartik was rushed to Dr Hedgewar Hospital in a critical condition where he was declared brought dead. “The contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child,” observed the Commission. The Commission has sought a report in this matter from Delhi Chief Secretary within two weeks. (PTI)

Three injured in firing in cinema

Muzaffarnagar: Three persons were injured when three bike-borne men opened fire in a cinema complex in Minaxi chowk here. SP (City) Shravan Kumar said three men came on a bike and opened fire on one Rajesh Tyagi in Minaxi theatre complex, leaving Tyagi and two others, identified as Mohammed Nazer and Rehman, injured. The three were rushed to a hospital in serious condition, he said. (PTI)
