Imphal: Two women died and four others sustained injuries in a bomb blast on Wednesday evening at Ukhrul district.

While one woman died on the spot, another succumbed to her injuries today, police said.

All the injured were moved to Imphal for treatment and were stated to be out of danger.

Police said a blast occurred in front of a shop, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old woman. Another woman succumbed to her injuries after being brought here.

Security personnel rushed to investigate. It was not yet known whether any Naga militant outfit was involved in the incident.

State police forces were recently removed from the area and prohibitory orders, restricting carrying of arms, withdrawn after the United Naga Council imposed an indefinite blockade earlier this month.

Meanwhile, The United Naga Council(UNC), Naga Women’s Union(NWU) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have condemned the “dastardly act of bomb blast at Ukhrul town”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the organisations stated, “At this time of hard earned peace when the entire Naga people are in expectant hope for peaceful settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, any form of terrorism, be it by state or non state actor, is most condemnable.”

The UNC, NWU and ANSAM appealed to all and sundry to eschew such inhuman acts and crimes against feloow beings. (Agencies)
