Kohima: Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for School Education Yitachu has said the state is currently facing a shortfall of 531 Mathematics and 314 Science teachers.
Addressing the state-level INSPIRE Science Exhibition programme at Kohima on Thursday,  Yitachu said the state was in need of qualified people to fill up the vacant posts of Math and Science teachers.
Admitting that many schools were facing shortage of teachers, he assured to set the matter right by evolving various ‘workable methods.’
Pointing out that the study of Math and Science was a job-oriented one, he expressed dismay over less number of students going for these subjects.
Stating that many students lack confidence to pursue mathematics and science, notwithstanding its enormous scope in terms of job opportunity, he challenged the students to remove fear from their minds and take up these subjects seriously.
Stating that about 65 per cent of the students were studying in private schools in the state, Yitachu said the department was also examining ways and means to send math and science teachers to these private schools as well. (UNI)
