Pawar to seek creation of new Malegaon dist in Maharashtra
Malegaon (Maha): Former Union Minister Sharad Pawar has stressed on the need to carve a new minority district of Malegaon out of Nashik for proper development of the powerloom town. “The bifurcation of Nashik district has been delayed for past many years, but now we will try our best to create a new Malegaon district and it will be developed,” Pawar said while addressing a public rally here Tuesday. The NCP chief said they will make efforts for providing concessions to powerlooms for their overall development and to start a direct flight service from Aurangabad for Haj pilgrims. On the occasion, state PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal criticised the Narendra Modi-led Central government for its “anti-farmer policies”. Lauding the NCP chief, Bhujbal said when Pawar was the Union Agriculture Minister, he took care of the farmers, but alleged that now they were facing problems due to the “wrong agriculture policies of the NDA government.” (PTI)
3 IAS officers transferred in UP
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday transferred three IAS officers and modified posting of few others, an official spokesman said here. Gautam Buddha University Registrar Pashupathi Saxena has been shifted as Special Secretary, National Integration, he said. Special Secretary, Planning, Pushpa Singh has been shifted to General Administration department in the same capacity. Arun Veer Singh, who was on the wait list, has been posted as Additional Commissioner, Commercial Tax at Gautam Buddha Nagar. The transfer of Principal Secretary, Housing, Sadakant as Divisional Commissioner, Basti has been cancelled. Similarly, the transfer of Principal Secretary, Industrial and Infrastructure, Sanjeev Saran as Devipatan Commissioner has also been cancelled. (PTI)
Protesters block rly tracks, demand ban on cow slaughter
Phagwara: Activists of Hindu right wing outfits Wednesday held a protest against cow slaughter on railway tracks here, delaying the Amritsar-Mumbai Express by over an hour. The protesters, including members of Shiv Sena Punjab, were unhappy over cases of cow slaughter in some parts of Punjab, particularly Malerkotla. They sang bhajans and raised slogans against the Punjab government. It was only after Phagwara SP Gursevak Singh Brar intervened with the protesters that they agreed to lift the dharna and allowed the train to proceed. Led by Sena state vice president Rajesh Palta, the protesters demanded a ban on cow slaughter and the closure of abattoirs. They also called for the arrest of all the culprits behind a recent cow slaughter incident in Malerkotla. Carcasses of some cows were found in Malerkotla on Sept. 10 by locals leading to protests in the area, said Sangrur SSP, Mandeep Singh Sidhu. (PTI)
Minor dalit girl gangraped, dies
Badaun (UP): A 16-year-old dalit girl was allegedly gangraped by three youths and later succumbed to her injuries in Civil Lines area here, a senior police officer said Wednesday. The 16-year-old victim, a class XI student, was gangraped by her neighbour and his two friends last evening when she had gone to fetch water, Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh said. “The girl was taken to a private hospital in a serious condition, but doctors said her condition was worse and that she be taken to a bigger hospital. She later died at her residence,” he said. Meanwhile, the main accused Prashant Arora locked his house and fled with the accomplices, the SSP said. Police said a case has been lodged against Prashant and the two aides under sections of IPC for murder, rape and under SC/ST Act and POCSO Act. Efforts are on to nab the accused, they said. (PTI)
