SHILLONG: UDP is expected to raise the leadership issue during Friday’s meeting of the three partners of the ruling coalition of the KHADC — All Regional Parties Alliance (APRA).
The UDP has taken the initiative to hold this meeting of all the three allies to take the final call on the leadership issue.
“We will be raising the decision of the party EMs to surrender their portfolios. We will also be raising the issue of leadership since the party MDCs are reluctant to continue to work under the leadership of incumbent CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit,” UDP working president Bindo Lanong said here on Thursday.
He said that some of the party MDCs had wanted to resign as EMs.
“We have asked them to wait for the outcome of Friday’s meeting,” Lanong said.
Meanwhile, KHNAM has asserted that a decision on the fate of ARPA will be taken during Friday’s meeting.
“If the meeting failed to arrive to any solution, the party will have to look for other alternative,” KHNAM president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon said after the party CEC meeting on Wednesday night.
UDP hails ANVC peace pact: Meanwhile, the UDP has welcomed the signing of the tripartite memorandum of settlement (MoS) between the Union Government, State Government and ANVC.
“We welcome the signing of the peace pact with the ANVC. This will definitely go a long way towards bringing a lasting peace in Garo Hills region,” Lanong said.
Lanong, however, said that the State Government should speed up the proposed dialogue with the proscribed HNLC.
