4 ex-cops booked in case of fraud
Nagpur: An offence has been registered against four retired officers of Motor Transport (MT) unit of Nagpur police in an alleged case of fraud in procurement of spare parts to the tune of Rs 40.24 lakh, police said on Friday. According to a police statement, the four officers – police inspector P G Ladikar, sub-inspector B S Roy and two workshop supervisors M A Sheikh and D S Narule were booked for allegedly submitting fake documents in procurement of spare parts between year 2000 and 2005 while they were posted at the MT unit. An internal enquiry was conducted which found involvement of the four officers in the case. Based on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Arvind Gajbhiye of MT unit, all four were booked under IPC sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and other relevant sections, the release added. JU PRO VC submits resignation
Kolkata: The Pro VC of Jadavpur University, Siddhartha Dutta, has submitted his resignation, official sources said. “The governor has received the letter from him last night and it has been forwarded to the state government for further official procedures,” Raj Bhawan sources said on Friday. When contacted, Dutta refused to comment on the matter. Dutta’s resignation comes at a point of time when Jadavpur University students are demanding resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, Abhijit Chakraborty, over police crackdown in the campus last week. The university students on Thursday staged a fresh protest after the Vice-Chancellor stepped into his office, a week after the controversial police action on agitating students. The students sat outside his office shouting slogans demanding his resignation, stopping short of a gherao this time. A proposed march to the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lal Bazar yesterday was called off by the protesting students after the cases against them were withdrawn. Thousands of students had marched through the city’s streets last Saturday demanding the VC’s resignation.(PTI)
Toddler sexually assaulted in playschool
New Delhi: A three-year old girl was sexually assaulted by the 24-year-old son of the owner of the playschool she was attending, police said on Friday. The accused was arrested on Friday after the victim’s parents informed the police on Thursday. The incident occurred in the playschool located in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar area. The girl was taken to the hospital after she complained of pain in abdomen, police said. This is the second such incident of rape in the past two days. An employee of a playschool located in west Delhi’s Rohini area was Thursday arrested for sexually assaulting a two-and-a-half-year-old girl after she identified him. (IANS)
Four held for Rs 62 lakh ATM cash heist
Indore: Busting a conspiracy regarding loot of Rs 62 lakh allegedly involving men responsible for filling cash in ATM machines, police here have arrested four employees of an agency entrusted with the job. A private firm’s vehicle involved in filling currency notes in ATMs had met with an accident at Nandlai steep road area on September 24. The vehicle’s security guard was found unconscious under an influence of an unidentified drug and Rs 62 lakh cash placed in it was also stolen by someone, Mhow area’s Additional SP Arvind Tiwari said today. During probe it was found that the company’s three employees – Praveen Sharma, Manish Borasi and driver Vijay Soni – along with associate Rahul Kadam hatched a conspiracy to loot cash from the vehicle and as part of it, they offered a sedative-laced juice to the van’s security guard. As planned, they later rammed the van into a tree and Rahul looted Rs 62 lakh cash kept in it, he said. On the basis of suspicion, police questioned them following which they admitted to have committed the crime, he said. (PTI)
