5 candidates in fray for Hiyanglam bypoll, a candidate rejected
Imphal: A candidate’s nomination papers for Hiyanglam bypoll was rejected on Monday during scrutiny. Altogether five candidates will be in the fray for the Hiyanglam bypoll scheduled to be held on October 17. Two persons had filed for Trinamool Congress and the nomination paper of the All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur state candidate, Yumnam Thambou, was found incomplete and so it was rejected . Papers of five other candidates were found valid. The other candidates were Maibam Dhanabir Singh of BJP, Mayengbam Amutombi of Manipur People Party, Elangbam Dwijamani of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee and Dr Y Radheshyam of All India Trinamool Congress. In the last Assembly elections Maibam Kunjo of Trinamool Congress defeated Elangbam Dwijamani of Congress by only 17 votes. Son of the former MLA, Maibam Dhanabir has decided to switch camp and fight on a BJP ticket. Former Trinamool MLA– Maibam Kunjo’s tenure expired on August 11 last necessitating the byelection. Votes will be counted on October 19. Bypoll will be held in 34 polling stations and 23,720 voters will exercise their franchise. (UNI)
Nagaland Guv and CM patrons of state Bharat Scouts and Guide
Kohima: Nagaland Governor P B Acharya and Chief Minister T R Zeliang were on Monday inducted as the chief patron and patron respectively of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guide. They were inducted during a formal induction and award ceremony of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guide at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan here. Taking over as the Chief Patron, Acharya said Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary, non-political and educational movement for young people and scouting creates a positive environment where young people are encouraged to be self-reliant and helpful to each other and in the process built a better society. The Governor said he was delighted that the Nagaland Bharat Scouts and Guides has chalked out ‘Vision 2015’ to improve youth programme, increase annual membership by 10 per cent, improve its financial status and also improve communication and public relations. Acharya also assured to work towards improvement of the Nagaland Bharat Scouts and Guides. (PTI)
Nagaland Lotha organisations decry apathy of state govt
Kohima: A marathon consultative meeting of all the frontal organisations of Lotha tribe on Ralan issue on Monday decried the apathy and inaction of the state government towards the conflict except verbal and newspaper declaration on peace. A release by Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) and Lotha Youth Hoho LYH chairmen today said the meeting jointly organised by the two bodies was held here on Friday. It lamented that the state government had not taken any concrete step– administrative and material help– to the victims of the six affected villages who are still languishing in makeshift camps and nearby villages.
