SHILLONG: The Urban Affairs department is working on a system of signage in the city to enable people to easily locate a place or a house.

Speaking to reporters recently, Principal Secretary, Urban Affairs, P. Naik said that the system will make it easy for people to locate an address.

Initially, the Department will implement the system in areas falling under the Municipal jurisdiction.

Naik said that the department will go through maps and would hold discussions with the various localities before coming up with the signage of the areas.

Under the proposed system, households will be properly numbered and cross and main roads would also be numbered.

He said that the department will try to implement the system within two to three months.

Under the system, the department is mulling to come with a system of naming all roads, lanes and bye lanes in the city.

The Department is also mulling to put name plates in front of the Government houses to make it easy for the people to identify such addresses.
