Jakarta: Mount Sinabung volcano in North Sumatra in Indonesia erupted Sunday, sending columns of ash up to 3,000 meters to the sky, an official said.

But the eruption did not trigger evacuation.

The volcano has erupted four times since earlier Sunday, Sutopo Purno Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency, told Xinhua over phone. Hot ash and gravel spewed into the sky, all sliding to the south, said Sutopo. Mount Sinabung last erupted in June and September. An earlier eruption left 15 people dead and more than 30,000 others displaced. (IANS)
