Franciscan Youth Federation meet concludes at Mawkasiang

SHILLONG: The 7th Annual Meet of the Franciscan Youth Federation (FYF) North East India with the theme ‘Youth and Family’ culminated with a cultural show on Monday in the presence of Health and Water Resources Minister A.L. Hek, Mawryngkneng MLA David Nongrum and other dignitaries, priest, Franciscan brothers and 600 delegates from 11 units across the North East at St. Francis Institute, Mawkasiang.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hek stressed that youth should be more proactive and efficient in today’s ultra-competitive world and being under the banner of a Franciscan organization, they should imbibe its qualities for a fruitful and better future.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of Bishop Emeritus Rev. Thomas Menamparampil SDB and Provincial Franciscan Brothers NE Bro. Aloysious Kethidathil CMSF.

The resource persons dwelt on the theme through sessions, which included Archbishop Dominic Jala, Bishop Victor Lyngdoh, Bro Collinsius Wanniang CMSF and ICYM president Ronnie Wahlang. The event was chaired by Principal of St Francis D’ Assisi Secondary School, Br. Jinu Joseph CMSF and Director of St. Francis Holistic Healing Centre, Mawkasiang Br. Thomas Pulickal CMSF and former YCS NEXCO Edward Thma.

The FYF is a youth organization under the banner of the Franciscan Missionary and the annual meet honours the feast of St. Francis of Assisi which falls on Oct 4. FYF’s motto is ‘youth for education and peace’.
