Synod College to host two-day international seminar on migration

SHILLONG: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Synod College, Shillong, is organising an Interdisciplinary International Seminar on the theme, “Human Migration in South Asia: Dynamics and Implications” on October 9 and 10 on the College premises.

This Seminar is being organised with an objective to understand the factors compelling and attracting people in South Asia to migrate and to understand its implications on the various aspects of life of the people such as culture, ethnic identity and ethnicity, culture, economy besides others. Human migration has both positive and negative consequences.

The resource persons in the seminar include among others Dinesh Tripathi (Advocate, Nepal Supreme Court and a well known human rights activist in Nepal), Sonam Tenzing (former Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Europe and the present Deputy Director, Tibet Policy Institute, Dharamshala) and Ardent M. Basaiawmoit (MLA and MDC).

The resource persons and other scholars from within the State as well as from other parts of the country will deliberate on the various issues of the problem of human migration in the region.

Chief Secretary P.B.O Warjri, will grace the inaugural function on October 9 at 10am as the chief guest.
