Itanagar: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs, Sports and Skill Development Sarbananda Sonowal has lashed out at the Congress for its misgovernance and urged the electorate for dumping the ‘corrupt’ Congress and embrace BJP in the coming byelection in Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing an election rally at Kanubari Assembly Constituency of Longding district recently, the Union Minister alleged that the Congress cheated and looted the country for more than 60 years, and called for dumping the corrupt Congress and embrace BJP.

Mr Sonowal, the Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Lakhimpur, who is credited with leading the BJP in the state as president to help it capture seven out of 14 seats raising the tally from four, hoped that voters of Kanubari shall apply their ‘political wisdom’ in electing the young and energetic Rongnai Maham as their representative so as to ensure all round socio-economic development of the constituency and State as a whole.

Intensifying his attack at the rival camp, Mr Sonowal remarked, ‘The worst road condition, acute power supply that has kept the constituency in darkness, shortage of (potable) water and failure of mobile networks are a very serious matter and it is the gift of Congress government that ruled the State for more than 30 years.’

The Minister promised to solve the problems of the constituency provided the BJP candidate is elected to the State Assembly.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has doled out huge funds for the North-Eastern states for all round development.

He added that Modi has a big plan for North Eastern states and would like to see this region as one of the most developed regions.

Besides the party nominee, the rally was also addressed by Assam MPs Kamakhya Tasa and Rameswar Teli, and State BJP general secretary Dominic Tadar.

The meeting was also attended by party MLAs Tesam Pongte, Tamar Murtem, Olom Panyang and Dr Mohesh Chai, besides State BJYM president Dugh Saha, State convener IT (social media) cell Likha Nari, district president Mandan Dokkam and secretary (org) Ramesh Kaddaganchi.

The bypoll, scheduled on October 15, was necessitated after the Kanubari seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Newlai Tingkhatra days before he was declared winner in the April 9, 2014 polls.

The former Minister died of a massive stroke in a Gurgaon hospital on May 7 last. (UNI)
