New Delhi: Former Union Minister V Narayanasamy has been made the in-charge of Congress affairs in Northeastern states including Meghalaya replacing Luizinho Faleiro, who was on Tuesday appointed the PCC chief of Goa.
Narayanswamy, a former general secretary of AICC, will hold charge of Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur and Meghalaya, AICC general secretary Janardan Dvwivedi informed here on Wednesday.
The decision to appoint Narayanasamy as the in-charge of Northeastern states is the first instance of the party accommodating a minister from the erstwhile UPA government at the Centre in organisational affairs ever since Congress lost in the Lok Sabha polls.
Incidentally, Narayanswamy was the Chairman of the Screening Committee which was formed by the AICC before Lok Sabha polls to select candidates for the general elections held this year.
The decision came at a time when a reshuffle of the AICC is due, which could see a number of general secretaries being given responsibilities in their home states. Sources in AICC have been maintaining that the reshuffle could happen any time after the upcoming Assembly elections.
While Maharashtra and Haryana are going to polls on October 15, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir are likely to have Assembly elections by the year-end.
A reshuffle and expansion of the Union Cabinet is also expected after the Assembly polls.
