Anarchy rules villages in W Garo Hills

SHILLONG: Raksamgre in West Garo Hills has become a hotbed of violent activities of militants and other criminal elements with the latest incident being the kidnapping of two traders from the area of Rengsinpara.

During the market day on Saturday, two traders were abducted by suspected militants at around 8:30 am from Rengsinpara under Raksamgre. Details on the kidnapped victims are still awaited.

According to the residents, earlier on October 2, two more persons were abducted from Belguri market and they are yet to be released.

On the same day, police recovered the body of one Sukur Ali (24) from Watregre village under Raksamgre falling under Tikrikilla police station, also in West Garo Hills. The deceased is suspected to have been murdered by unknown miscreants.

Later, on October 3 another body was recovered from Kaldikgre and the residents are shocked at the serial murders, kidnappings and other crimes.

There was no market on Saturday (Contd on P-10)

at Jangrapara also under Raksamgre, after a group of miscreants assaulted some residents on Friday.

When contacted, Parliamentary Secretary and Congress legislator Limison Sangma, who represents Raksamgre constituency, said that the issue of lawlessness had been taken up with both the DGP and the State Home Minister, but in vain.
