Study on power scenario in State

SHILLONG: The Fact Finding Team (FTT) constituted by the Opposition parties to study the power scenario in the State will take some more time to submit its recommendations to the State Government.

“We have already started to prepare the outline of our findings after visiting the various power projects including those currently being implemented by the MeECL,” FTT chairman Jemino Mawthoh informed here on Saturday.

Mawthoh said the Opposition team will hold another round of discussion with top MeECL officials before starting the work of compiling the report.

While clarifying that the Opposition parties have come together without intending to gain political mileage out of the issue, Mawthoh said the situation had compelled them to come together as one combined force.

“We would like to come up with some innovative suggestions in our report which can help to improve the power scenario in the State,” Mawthoh said.

“We have attempted to understand the various challenges faces by the MeECL. We have also discussed the various dimensions relating to distribution of power,” he added.

When asked if the FTT will seek the opinion of experts in this exercise, he said that they were already seeking advice and opinion from the experts.

“We are involving the experts since they are better equipped to analyze the power scenario in the State,” Mawthoh added.
