SHILLONG: There is good news for those who have been deprived of their quota of sugar under the PDS for the last several months. Sugar will now be made available under PDS at the rate of Rs 13.50 paise per kg in ration shops from next month.

After the Union Government had stopped procuring sugar, the states had been asked to procure sugar by themselves while a certain amount of money as subsidy was allotted to the states by the Centre.

“We have issued orders for the supply of sugar and we are expecting that from November supply of sugar will be normal,” an official with the Food and Civil Supplies department said on Tuesday.
