Rio de Janeiro: At least 51 suspected paedophiles were arrested in Brazil for child pornography, a media report said.
Some 500 police officers Wednesday took part in the operation called Darknet, which led to arrests in 18 states, Xinhua reported citing Brazilian news portal G1 news.
According to police, those arrested are from different sections of the society.
“In Rio Grande do Sul (state), a computer technician, a telephone technician, a professor of Jujitsu, nurses, a doorman and a math teacher were arrested,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
Over 100 searches, seizures and arrest warrants were issued in the operation, which also uncovered participants of the child pornography rings in Portugal, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Italy. Twelve arrest warrants were issued for suspects in these countries.
At least six children were rescued during the investigations, police said. (IANS)
