All set for Hiyanglam bypoll on Friday

Imphal: Preparations are complete for Friday by-poll to Hiyanglam assembly constituency in Thoubal district.
Security personnel and poll officials have reached their respective polling stations.
A total of 24492 voters, including 38 service voters and 12539 females, will decide the fate of Dr Yumnam Radheshyam Singh of Trinamool Congress, Elangbam Dwijamani Singh of INC, Mayengbam Amutombi Singh of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Maibam Dhanabir Singh of BJP and Thokchom Laiba Singh of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP).
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his deputy Gaikhangam led the campaign for the Congress, while Th Chaoba, BJP state president, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, BJP central leaders and some MLAs from other states and film stars campaigned for the BJP.
All the 34 polling stations in the Assembly segment have been declared ‘hyper-sensitive’ by Chief Electoral Officer O Nabakishore. Each polling station would be manned by 10 central paramilitary personnel and state personnel will be guarding the main gate and surrounding areas.
Voting will begin from 0050 hours and conclude at 1700 hours.
EVMs will be used in all polling stations and to ensure free and fair poll the District Administration has imposed prohibitory orders in the constituency. The government has declared a holiday in the district on Friday. (UNI)
