SHILLONG: The State Police have reiterated that Achik Matgric Elite Force (AMEF) was involved in the killing of a trader in Wageasi, besides causing injuries to two others on October 10.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the Meghalaya Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said that killing of Akbar Ali, a trader from Krishnai, Assam, at Wageasi area under Dainadubi was carried out by AMEF.
Also on October 11, AMEF cadres Goran, Stap and others kidnapped another trader Sopon Rabha and his driver Noor Alam from Chima-Impel village under Dainadubi area. Sopon Rabha is from Dorongre of Assam.
According to police, AMEF has been formed by self-styled commander Jack Marak, who was with GNLA initially and was responsible for the kidnap of government official Boro, the then BDO of Daddengre, in June, 2011. He later parted ways with GNLA and joined Reading T Sangma to form ASAK.
Jack Marak, on August 5, kidnapped Subodh Kumar Mishra, Cashier, SBI, from Gasuapara and after taking Rs.10 lakh, he ran away and formed AMEF, police said.
