Report on entry, exit points to tackle influx submitted

SHILLONG: The Govern-ment-constituted committee tasked with the job to identify the locations for setting up of the entry and exit points in the State in the attempt to tackle the problem of influx and illegal immigration has submitted its recommendations to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday.

The committee, headed by Additional DGP SK Jain, has identified 18 locations for setting up of the entry and exit points in Khasi and Jaintia Hills.

“The committee is yet to identify the locations for the Garo Hills region since the exercise was dislocated due to the recent flood,” the Chief Minister said.

According to him, the State Government will soon initiate the process of arranging necessary funds to create the needed infrastructure at the identified locations which will come up in three phases.

Sangma informed that the first phase will include 5 locations, followed by 6 and the third phase will be for the remaining 7 locations.

“Requisite proposals are now being asked for creating the needed infrastructure so that the government can accordingly allocate the necessary funds,” he said.
