Guwahati: In view of fresh attacks on people from the Northeast in rest of the country including Delhi areas and Bengaluru, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday demanded enactment of special deterrent law to prevent such racial attacks on Northeast people.
Gogoi on Friday strongly condemned the recent incidents of racial attacks on people from the Northeast region saying, “Such dastardly attacks on NE people in Delhi and other places outside the region are most despicable and reprehensible. Such racial attacks send out wrong signals besides acting to alienate people from the region from the mainstream of the country.”
He called for stern action against perpetrators of such racial attacks and advocated for enactment of a deterrent law to prevent such racial attacks on North East youth in Delhi and other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, several others organisations in the state including All Assam Students’ Union, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AUYCP) have also condemned the fresh attacks on N-E youth in rest of the country and criticised the Government of India and respective state government for failing to protect the lives and dignity of youth from the region residing in various other parts of the country for various purposes including education and profession related.
