TURA: Police have retrieved a highly decomposed body of an adult man that floated downstream at Baburam beel, 4 kms from Dalu, on Thursday. The spot where the body was found happens to fall inside the border of South Garo Hills District.
The body was first spotted by villagers late Thursday afternoon following which they alerted the police.
Speaking to The Shillong Times over phone from Baghmara, district SP, Lakador Syiem informed that the identity of the man remains unknown and the corpse was in an advanced state of decomposition.
“Our initial findings indicate that the deceased may have died somewhere else but was brought downstream by the water current of the river. We are awaiting the post mortem report to ascertain the cause of death,” said Syiem while not ruling out murder.
He also said that there have been no reports of missing persons recently.
The deceased reportedly had on a dress that had similar pattern of a camouflage uniform.
Police do not rule out the possibility of the deceased being a member of some outfit killed in fratricidal conflict somewhere in the jungles that dot the upper ridges of the area where various outfits including the GNLA and ASAK are highly active.
