Woman Naxal commander surrenders after brother persuades her
Raipur:A dreaded woman Naxal commander surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division after she was persuaded by her brother, who is a police personnel. Shanti Kunjam (32), who was heading Mirtur local operation squad (LOS), surrendered yesterday, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, SRP Kalluri told PTI. She was persuaded by her brother Anil, who is a SPO (special police officer) attached with the state police, to surrender and join the mainstream, Kalluri said. when the erstwhile anti-Naxal movement – Salwa Judum – was at peak in the region and rebels took her along with them. Initially she worked with Mirtur area committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) and subsequently shifted to Kamloor area committee, In December 2013, she was elevated as commander of Mirtur LOS, the IG said. Recently, when Shanti had arrived at her sister’s place in Mopalnar village, her brother and uncle met her and convinced her to quit the movement, he said. She was involved in various incidents, including encounters, blasts and damaging railway tracks, he said. (PTI)
72-yr-old-man sexually abuses mentally-challenged minor girl
Odisha:A mentally-challenged minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 72-year-old relative of hers who has been absconding after the matter came to light. According to the FIR lodged by the girl’s mother on Sept. 28, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl and also threatened her against talking about the matter to anybody. The officer-in-charge of Kamarda police station and the investigating officer in the case, Brahmananda Nayak, said that a case has been registered and the victim has been medically examined. “The investigation is on. The accused went absconding three days prior to the lodging of the FIR,” said Nayak. Efforts are on to apprehend the accused, he said while rejecting allegations that police was avoiding arresting the accused. (PTI)
Man kills sister suspecting her infidelity Tuticorin
Tamil Nadu:A 35-year-old man murdered his sister by smashing her head with a grinding stone, suspecting her infidelity at Pudukottai village on Thursday. Police said, S Esthar Selvi (38), mother of two children used to talk to other men and move with them. Her brother Santhosh (35) was unable to tolerate her activities and whenever he rebuked her for suspecting her infidelity, there were quarrels among them. There was a heated squabble between Esther Selvi and Santhosh this morning, when her husband was away from home. An enraged Santhosh attacked his sister indiscriminately and smashed her head with the grinding stone killing her on the spot. On information, police immediately came to the house and took the body to the government hospital morgue for post mortem. Santhosh was arrested and he confessed that he was enraged over the “activities” of his sister. (UNI)
Police grapple to get clues on sexual assault case
Bangalore:Two days after the disturbing incident when a three-year-old kindergarten student was sexually abused in an up market school in the city, police are still trying to zero in on the real culprit but no arrests have been made, a top police official said on Thursday. The October 21 incident, third such case in the city this year, had attracted wide condemnation while parents thronged the school even today to seek explanation from the management. The Hyderabad-based director of the Orchid International school, where the incident was reported, had rushed to the city soon after the incident. on Thursday, the school managing committee held a meeting in the morning with parents, top education department officials from the Karnataka government and the police. Meanwhile, police are looking for vital clues in the alleged sexual assault case of a minor student.Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police T K Suresh (North) said there had been no arrests made so far but some people were detained for questioning.He said statements of the child, her parents and some staff in the school had been recorded and investigation is on based on circumstantial evidence.
