Suspended Tripura officer surrenders

Agartala: Block Development Officer Bimal Chakraborty, who was suspended for his alleged involvement in a scam in Sipahijala district, surrendered before a Bishalgarh court today. The Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional court remanded him to police custody for five days. Chakraborty, who was BDO of Bishalgarh, has been suspended for his alleged hand in misappropriation of MGNREGA funds amounting to Rs 17 crore in the past one-and-a-half years. The ‘misappropriation’ was noticed in a special audit report for Bishalgarh block. An FIR was lodged against 12 officers and employees including Chakraborty on September 19. (PTI)
