Medical college at Tura

SHILLONG: Work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed medical college to be set up at Tura is on track.

“The DPR will be submitted to the Centre immediately after its completion,” a senior government official informed here on Thursday.

According to him, the Centre has assured to expedite the work for setting up of the Government medical college.

Mentionably, the State Government had entrusted the task of preparing the DPR to a Delhi-based firm –Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd. The firm will work out the modalities for infrastructural and other related works besides carrying out a detailed survey of the proposed site.

The proposed medical college to be constructed on the 99 acres of land will have the capacity to cater to 500 patients, besides accommodating 100 students.

When asked whether the compensation has been paid to the land owners, the official said that the Government spent Rs 3.40 crore to pay compensation to all the land owners.

On Shillong medical college to be set up under PPP mode, the official informed that the government was waiting for the completion of the new Reid Provincial Chest Hospital (RPCH) at Umsawli in New Shillong Township.

“We cannot hand over the land at Mawbah from where RPCH is currently functioning to the KPC Medical College and Hospital, Jadavpur for development of the medical college until they are able to shift the TB hospital to Umsawli,” the official said.

Earlier, the State Government had signed the Concessionaire Agreement with the firm Government with for development of the hospital and medical college under Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

The total estimated cost for the Shillong Medical College is Rs 250 crore.
