Suicide bombing threat: Security at major airports stepped up

Kochi/New Delhi:Major airports in the country were put on alert on Friday after an anonymous caller warned of a suicide bomber attack on an Air India flight.
Security at the Kolkata, Mumbai,Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Cochin airports was strengthened by the CISF teams soon after the call.According to sources, the security at the Nedumbassery Airport here was increased following an anonymous phone call last night to the director of Airports Authority of India at Kolkata about a possible suicide attack on an Air India flight from Mumbai.
The Director had received an anonymous phone call threatening that the Air India flight on the Mumbai-Kochi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai sector would be ‘sabotaged’, CIAL sources told UNI.
The CISF had given necessary instructions to strengthen the security at four airports, including Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, besides Cochin.
CISF DIG Anand Mohan, who arrived from Chennai following the information, convened a high-level meeting to review the security at the airport.
Air India officials are maintaining a close watch on its flights in close rapport with CISF.

The CISF had given necessary instructions to strengthen the security at four air ports, including Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, besides Cochin.
Following the call, the AAI officials asked the four airports, including Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Mumbai and Cochin to stepped up the security, the sources added.
In view of the threat call, security measures were strengthened with one more level security check at departure lounge, they said adding that a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Quick Response team, CISF and police are keeping a constant vigil at the airport.
If you are boarding a flight from the city airport on Friday or Saturday be prepared for increased security checks.(UNI)
