Mahesh Rawat scores century for Central on the last day

Mohali: Mahesh Rawat scored a century and combined well with lower-order batsmen to pile on the misery of the North Zone bowlers as Central Zone’s Duleep Trophy semifinal ended in a draw here on Saturday. Coming into the final day of the match, Central Zone had their place in the summit clash assured on the back of their first innings lead and their batsmen got some good practice under their belt ahead of the final. Before being bowled out for 312 on Saturday, they made a poor start as their top-order crumbled. Both the openers – Faiz Fazal (0) and Jalaj Saxena (2) and Robin Bisht (2) were back in the pavilion by the sixth over. North, chasing 394, ended the day and match at 24 for one in their second innings. (PTI)

Saina bows out of French Open

Paris: Ace India shuttler Saina Nehwal crashed out of the French Open Super Series after going down to World No. 2 Shixian Wang of China in a hard-fought women’s singles quarterfinal contest here on Saturday. Seeded fifth, Saina posed a quite a challenge to her Chinese rival but in the end it was a case of so close, yet so far for the Indian who lost 19-21 21-19 15-21. The battle lasted an hour and 10 minutes here last night. Having lost the opening game, the world number six Indian bounced back to snatch the second but failed to sustain the pressure in the deciding game against a superior opponent. (PTI)

Final 2nd Shooting champs of All Meghalaya of MRSA

Shillong: The Meghalaya Fifle and Shootin Association (MRSA) has informed on Saturday that the finals of the 2nd MRSA shooting championship will be held on 28 and 29 October at 58 GTC, Indoor stadium and the Long Range. A total of 14 teams have joined the event. 60 finalists are competing for the 14 events in Air Rifle, Pistol, .22 Rifle and Trap shooting.
