Preparation of DPR of proposed IT Park in city

SHILLONG: The State Government would soon appoint consultancies for preparing detailed project report and other estimates for the much awaited Information Technology (IT) Park in Shillong.

Speaking to reporters recently, IT minister AL Hek said that the department is in the process of appointing consultancies for preparing the details of the project.

He also informed that 80 acres of land has been earmarked for the proposed IT park at New Shillong Township.

However, the department wants to ensure that all the basic facilities like uninterrupted power, internet, roads and others are in place before the IT park becomes a reality so that top IT players are attracted to invest here.

The proposed project is touted to be a game changer of sorts as far as employment generation in the State is concerned with benefits likely to extend to hundreds of youths from Meghalaya who have to travel outside the state for jobs in the IT and the services sector.
