HNY makes quickest Rs.100 crore

Shah Rukh Khan continues to rule the hearts and box office. His latest offering “Happy New Year” (HNY) has minted Rs.108.86 crore – the biggest opening weekend that a movie has got at the box office in India.
Produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd. (RCE), it raked in Rs.104.10 crore in Hindi, Rs.2.92 crore in Telugu dubbed version and Rs.1.84 crore in its Tamil dubbed version. HNY has become the highest opening weekend ranker in Indian films so far, read a statement.
“We are thrilled that after ‘Chennai Express’ had set a new record in 2013, ‘Happy New Year’ has set another new benchmark. We are grateful for the ongoing love and support of audience,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of RCE.
The heist drama also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.
Gaurav Verma, chief revenue officer, RCE, said: “We are thankful to all our partners, exhibitors and especially YRF (Yash Raj Films) for helping us achieve this significant milestone.”
 Happy New Year’ is about world dance championship so, we had dance championship. Definitely, thought goes into it otherwise it will have random people just dancing. This time we gave trophies and all. It was a proper competition at the end,” added the director, who included shots of her three children and Shah Rukh’s son AbRam in the end credit.
“We will be having a party at my house and each member of the cast will rotate the party. We are quite a few of us, so I think we will be celebrating for a week atleast. Farah said.(IANS)
