SHILLONG: The ANVC-B on Tuesday demanded immediate election to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, saying that election is a mandatory process to perform the duties that are coined in the peace agreement and therefore, it is constitutionally essential to have an election to constitute an executive committee in the GHADC in order to execute the signed agreement.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, ANVC-B leader Rimpu Marak said that the Garo Settlement is self-contended and focuses on bringing about change in the Garo society.

“Garo society is governed by Nokma, Laskar and Sordar who have a unique role in the society,” he said, while adding that the signed agreement redefines the role of these bodies by refreshing their roles in the society with funds to govern and develop.

He also informed that the outfit has prepared a pamphlet in Garo language to brief the people on the contents of the peace settlement.
