TURA: A primary school teacher hailing from Damas area of North Garo Hills has been abducted at gunpoint from his home by a group of suspected GNLA cadres using the name of a non-existent outfit on Tuesday morning.

Three suspected militants from the GNLA armed with pistols entered the village of Damas Kaskona during the early morning hours and forcibly took away primary teacher Maliram Rabha from his residence.

The militants claimed to be members of a non-existent A’chik Matgrik Tiger Force (AMTF) and walked off with their captive on foot towards the interior of Damas region, bordering Goalpara district of Assam. They were last spotted heading towards remote Chitukona village of Damas.

The victim teaches at Singimari Rabhapara LP School, near Krishnai town of Goalpara district.

At the time of abduction the armed men claimed themselves to be members of AMTF.

However, North Garo Hills police have revealed that it is the handiwork of GNLA area commander Philliport D Shira who had been spotted in the area with his cadres a day earlier. “Philliport was spotted yesterday at Damas Matchakol, 2 kms from the spot where the teacher was kidnapped today. He is trying to divert attention by using a fake name of AMTF,” informed North Garo Hills police chief J F K Marak.
