TURA: The A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) has strongly denied its involvement in the recent killing of a trader from Rongsak in East Garo Hills as alleged by police and claimed that the outfit’s name was being dragged merely to bring an end to the pending murder case.
“Initially it was revealed that the five cadres who surrendered before South Garo Hills Police belonged to the ASAK. Why is the police now contradicting its own statement and saying they are from the AMEF?” AMEF commander in chief, Chang Matgrik, questioned.
The militant leader claimed that Meghalaya Police was conveniently targeting the AMEF and trying to pin the murder on the outfit merely to solve the Rongsak murder case.
“The AMEF is not involved in the abduction and killing of Bharat Singh Shikawar. Even if we were to kidnap him we would not have killed him as all our cadres are answerable to our leaders,” he reiterated, adding that the outfit would take strong action if it turned out that the militants who surrendered were falsely claiming to be AMEF militants.
On police claim that Rs.12.5 lakh of the total ransom money was recovered from the home of the parents of a surrendered militant Arikham, the militant chief claimed that if the cadre had actually belonged to the AMEF he would have been relieved of the money by the outfit’s leaders.
