SHILLONG: Salesian Priest, Fr. Michael Makri SDB, a post graduate student at the University of the Philippines, Manila designed and developed the first interactive Khasi Bible application for android users.

The app titled ‘Bible Khasi’ is available for free on “Google Play store”.

The application has been designed for a total number of 1905 types of android devices available globally. The formal launching of the application was made on October 30 after Google Play Store finally gave a certificate of recognition and acceptance to the app designed by Fr. Makri and his team at DBCITI, Manila.

According to the designer and the publisher, the app is designed in a simple and user friendly way.

Fr. Makri said, “The app is attractive and it follows the format of the world’s best social network site – Facebook.”

It took Fr Makri and his team almost four months to design and publish the app. “Developing an app in Khasi in a foreign country (Philippines) without the help of a Khasi person or at least someone who can understand the language is very challenging… But I am happy that while doing this project, I was able to read and re-read the entire Bible several times,” Fr Makri said.

Satisfied with his efforts, Fr Makri said, “I feel happy that I am able to contribute something for young people, many of whom have the desire to have the Word of God wherever they are and now they have it.”
