Apex bodies stand together on Naga issue

Kohima:Two apex tribal bodies in Nagaland — Naga Hoho (NH) and Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) — has jointly reaffirmed to stand together with regard to the Naga political issue and all the various common issues confronting the Naga people. The affirmation was made during a consultative meeting of the two apex bodies held here on October 31, stated a release jointly issued by NH President P Chuba Ozukum and ENPO president Chingmak Chang on Sunday. The two apex bodies also appealed to all, especially the Naga political groups, to desist from issuing any form of provocative and intimidating statement but rather encourage and practice open dialogue to resolve differences in the true spirit of truth and reconciliation, the release said. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam reopens

Morigaon(Assam):Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Central Assam’s Morigaon district with a dense population of the Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros reopened for tourists on Sunday after a routine closure of four months during the monsoons. Located in the western part of the district and adjacent to Guwahati, the sanctuary was formally reopened for both foreign and domestic visitors this morning by Assam Forest Minister Rockeybul Hussain at a colourful programme. During this monsoon, some parts of Pobitora Sanctuary were damaged by floods by river Brahmaputra, a sanctuary official said. No poaching had taken place during the floods, the official claimed. Having the densest population of one horned rhinos in the world, the 38 sq km Pobitora has over 90 rhinos in the only 16 sq km effective rhino habitat, they said. (PTI)

Nagaland Singing Ambassadors to represent India in Europe

Kohima:The Nagaland Singing Ambassadors (NSA), the performance wing of the Nagaland Conservatory of Music, has embarked on a tour of Europe for a series of concerts covering Brussels-Belgium, Madrid-Spain, and Dublin-Ireland as an Indian representation. The tour is sponsored and spearheaded by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs; to showcase India’s Northeast region’s rich choral music tradition, a statement said. One of the main highlights of the 15-day-tour from November 1 to 15 is their participation at the ‘ 1000 Voices for Peace concert’ in Brussels; commemorating 100 years anniversary of the 1st World War, where they will be joined by choirs from all over the world to sing the Oratorio for Peace – a new composition by the great Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. Alok Kumar takes over as CVC secretary

New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Alok Kumar has taken over as secretary of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), country’s top anti-corruption body. Kumar, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has also been entrusted with additional charge of Joint Secretary (Training) under the Ministry of Personnel till completion of his tenure or till posting of his successor, said an official order issued by the Ministry. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), headed by the Prime Minister, has also extended central deputation tenure of Kumar for three months beyond December 13, 2014. Kumar has taken over as CVC Secretary on Friday. The vacancy in the CVC was necessitated after K D Tripathi, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was on September 24 appointed Secretary in Department of Public Enterprises. (PTI)

Kohima Press Club President Xavier Rutsa bereaves

Kohima:A prominent citizen Meguonyü Rutsa (74), father of senior journalist Xavier Rutsa, president of Kohima Press Club (KPC) and Reporter of Times of India, passed away on Saturday. According to family sources today Meguonyü Rutsa, an early settler of New Market area of Kohima, was a former Gaon Burha of New Market. Several people turned up at the funeral service held at New Market and paid respect to the departed soul. The funeral service was led by Petekhriezo Francis, Assistant Catechist, SFS Kohima town with Rev Fr Phillip Yanpvüthung, Assistant PP, SFS Kohima Town as minister. Viluo-o Victor Rutsa spoke on behalf of the family members. Late Meguonyü was laid to rest at private residence, New Market, near TCP Gate Kohima.The Kohima Press Club (KPC) has expressed sadness over the demise of Meguonyü Xavier Rutsa of Kohima Village.(UNI)
