Speed up probe into boy’s murder: Owaisi

Hyderabad:Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has demanded that Hyderabad police speed up its investigations into the burning alive of an 11-year-old boy in the Mehdipatnam army garrison here.The member of parliament from Hyderabad said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the police should bring the guilty to book. Owaisi said an innocent boy was burnt alive and justice can’t be done by merely paying money to his family. Referring to suicide by a soldier who was being questioned by the SIT in this case, the parliamentarian said the reasons for the soldier’s suicide were not known.  He said SIT should speed up the probe, make its findings public as to who is responsible for the ghastly crime. He said the guilty should be arrested and sent to jail.  “If armymen are involved, they should be brought to book. Nobody is above the law. We respect Indian Army because the brave soldiers guard our borders but in this case the Army is answerable because this happened in their area,” said Owaisi while addressing a public meeting at First Lancer here Monday night in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.  (IANS)

5 arrested on charges of gang rape & robbery

Bengaluru: In a heinous crime, five people not only robbed valuables but also gang raped a 25 year-old woman in front of her husband, mother in-law and her son after tying them by saree she was wearing at Bellandur in the outskirts of he city recently. The incident of rape was confessed by the arrested to the police who were investigating on a complaint about robbery received by the victim’s family on October 26, Joint Police Commissioner Sharatchandra said. On October 24 night, the culprits, posing themselves as police officers, entered the house under the guise of searching for ganja and all of a sudden attacked the inmates with lethal weapons. They tied others before gang rapping and escaping with 30 gram gold ornaments and Rs 10,000 cash. The victims, who belonged to a middle class family living by working as construction labourers, filed a complaint of only robbery and not for Raping. Police showed them the photos of rowdies and the woman identified Nandish, a rowdy sheeter.(UNI)

Immolation by a labour over some dispute in UP

Lalitpur:A labour ended his life by setting himself ablaze due to police atrocities in BUndelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Talking to UNI, Superintendent of Police Kiran Yash here said that three days back Ramu Jha and Ranu Lodhi who were working as a labourer on an engine welding shop in the city kotwali limits of the district, had a dispute over some financial transaction. But a compromise was reached in the presence of police.Ramu was in tension due to the dispute and on Wednesday he ended his life by sprinkling kerosene on himself and setting ablaze at his residence near the Ram Raja temple in Lakshmipur area of the district.Ramu was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition where the doctors declared him brought dead.SP informed that, Additional SP Gaya Nand will enquire the case and if any policemen will be found guilty in the suicide then proper actions will be taken against them. Man shot at by son-in-law over family dispute

Muzaffarnagar:A man was shot at by his son-in-law when he refused to send his daughter with him at Dangrol village in Shamli district, police said. Fayyaz was shot at by his son-in-law Gulzar when he refused to send his daughter Saira Begum with him on Tuesday. Begum had left her husband’s house and was staying with her parents. Gulzar on Tuesday came with his family to take Begum with him but she refused. Fayyaz also denied to send his daughter following which Gulzar in a fit of rage shot at his father-in-law. A search is on for Gulzar and his family in the case. Begum was married to Gulzar eight years ago. She later left her husband’s house. (PTI)

Debt-ridden commits suicide

Thane:A couple on Wednesday committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling of their house in Padwal Nagar area in the city, police said. The couple, identified as Bharat Chavan (32) and his 30-year-old wife Nita, hanged themselves from the ceiling of their residence, Shrinagar police station API C D Koli said. They ended their lives in front of their eight-year-old daughter Aayesha, police said. “The couple might have taken this extreme step as they were reeling under debt and upset over financial issues,” police said. A case has been registered and further probe is on.(PTI)

Idol theft gang busted, 6 held

Tiruchirappalli (TN):Six persons allegedly belonging to a gang involved in stealing idols from temples were on Wednesday arrested and 10 bronze sculptures recovered from their possession here, police said. Acting on instructions from Idol Smuggling Prevention Wing IGP Pon Manickavel, police trapped the accused after posing as prospective buyers. Seven of the seized idols have been identified as belonging to a temple at Pinnavasal village. They were stolen on May 12 this year, police said, adding that efforts were on to trace where the other idols had come from. Information on the gang had emerged when a special team was investigating the murder of a woman doctor near here on Oct. 9, they said. (PTI)

Haryana lawmakers to donate salary for Kashmir relief

Chandigarh:The newly elected members of the Haryana assembly Tuesday unanimously decided to donate a month’s salary for the Jammu and Kashmir Relief Fund.On the second day of the first sitting of the assembly, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said all the legislators will donate their first salary towards Jammu and Kashmir Relief Fund after keeping Re.1 with themselves. Former chief minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the previous Haryana government had also contributed funds and relief supplies to the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.(IANS)
