14 more days of judicial remand for ‘jihadis’

Guwahati: The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup  district here remanded six alleged jihadis who were arrested by Assam police early last month, to 14 more days in judicial custody on their production before the court even as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) continued its investigation in the state in connection with October 2 Burdwan blast.
The accused person — Rafikul Islam (39), Md. Shiraj Ali Khan (53), Shaikhul Islam (20) @ Abdull, Jahuruddin (60) and his son Golam Usmani (23), Sarbesh Ali (35) — were arrested on charges of having link with Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from different parts of Barpeta district in Assam.
All of them hail from Barpeta district in western Assam. They were arrested in connection with the investigation into October 2 Burdwan blast that killed two JMB men while making bombs.
Police later arrested five more persons from various parts of Assam on charges of jihadi links. The NIA team in Assam is looking for one Sahanur Alam alias ‘Doctor’and his wife Sujina Begum for having close links with JMB.
The investigating agency has sealed all bank accounts of Sahanur in Barpeta district and raided his residence and those of his brothers on more thanone occasions till date.
Security sources claimed that the JMB module in Assam Sahanur who in the NIA’s list of most wanted,
failed to sneak into Bangladesh and South India dodging security agencies hot on his heels. His wife is also with him. The NIA has announced an award of Rs five lakh for credibleinformation on location of Sahanur.
