Guwahati:  A court here Saturday sent Sujina Begum, wife of Burdwan blast accused Shahnur Alom, to 14 days’ police custody, officials said.
Assam Police Saturday produced Sujina Begum in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here.
Police sources said Sujina Begum, who had received training in jihad at some madrassas in West Bengal, was actively working to spread the Islamist terror network in Assam along with her husband.
“It seems she is going to cooperate with us and we are hopeful to get some vital links from her to trace Shahnur Alom,” a police official said.
Sujina Begum was also engaged in spreading jihadi ideology among women.
“She was hiding at a house in Guwahati after leaving their house in Chatala village along with her husband,” police said.
Both Shahnur and Sujina, who had connections with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, an Islamist terror outfit based in the neighbouring country, were missing from their home in Chatala in Barpeta district after Eid last month.
A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the Burdwan blast, had announced a cash award on Shahnur and 11 other accused.
The NIA team had raided the couple’s house in Chatala and searched the bank accounts of the couple in the district.
Sujina Begum was nabbed by a team of Assam Police and CRPF from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) on the outskirts of Guwahati Thursday night.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently said jihadi forces were trying to raise a women’s wing in Assam and many youth from Barpeta and Nalbari districts had been sent abroad for training in jihadi activities. (IANS)
