Passing out parade

SHILLONG: As many as 248 recruits of 5 Gorkha Rifles Frontier Force (FF) and 8 Gorkha Rifles took the oath of affirmation during the passing our parade at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre in Happy Valley on Saturday.

Commandant, 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Brigadier RS Thakur reviewed the colourful parade and exhorted the young soldiers to be the finest in the Indian Army.

Recruit Bharat Pratap Chantel was adjudged as the ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and was awarded the ‘Manekshaw Khukri’ while Recruit Jhabindra Bahadur Rana was adjudged “Best Recruit” of 5 Gorkha Rifles (FF) and was awarded the ‘Zorawar Khukri’. Recruit Khadka Bahadur Raskoti was adjudged the “Best Recruit” of 8 Gorkha Rifles and was awarded the ‘Dutta Trophy’.

The parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ to commemorate their contribution to the nation.
