SHILLONG: Barely days after terming the charge sheet filed against him by East Garo Hills Police as “nothing but a concocted criminal conspiracy”, political activist Tennydard Marak has now pointed out that his name did not surface in the February 16 FIR lodged by Jonathone Sangma who had accused the former and Deborah Marak of tying-up with the GNLA to influence voters during the last Assembly elections.
“The charge sheet filed against me is a cold blooded conspiracy to entangle me in a case in which I am not involved either directly or indirectly and interestingly my name was not mentioned in the alleged FIR filed by Jonathone Sangma,” Marak alleged in a statement issued here on Sunday.
He also expressed concern over the silence of the Meghalaya Governor on the issue.
It may be mentioned that Marak has been charge-sheeted by East Garo Hills Police along with the Social Welfare minister for allegedly having links with the proscribed GNLA.
Marak also dared the Government to come clear on the unsuccessful attempt made by the ruling party-led executive committee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to hurriedly push the controversial “Anti-Indigenous Garo Codification Bill” and “the Garo Hills Autonomous District (Codification of the Garo Customary Laws) Bill, 2009.”
He also questioned the former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Donkupar Roy for asking charge-sheeted Cabinet Minister Deborah Marak to step down while keeping silent on the ST status issue of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
