SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) on Monday said that the decision taken by the MBoSE to make the primary school teacher sit for next year’s HSSLC examination was a grave injustice to them.
“There is no justification in asking the primary school teachers to re-appear in the HSSLC examination to meet the NCTE specifications. It is an injustice for those teachers who have been in service for the past ten to fifteen years,” KJDSTA president E.D. Nongsiang said while talking to newsmen here on Monday.
As per the MBoSE notifications, those teachers who have been appointed on or after September 2001, but have not fulfilled the minimum qualifications of securing 45 percent in the Pre-University or HSSLC or its equivalent examinations are required to appear the HSSLC examinations 2015 to meet the minimum qualifications as specified by the NCTE.
Nongsiang said that the KJDSTA would oppose the MBoSE move to ask the teachers to re-appear in the HSSLC examination.
Asked about the fate of the 7000 plus teachers who have already submitted their examination forms, Nongsiang said that they cannot prevent any teacher from sitting in the examination.
“But the Association will definitely act if any harsh decision is taken against those teachers who fail to secure the required percentage after appearing in the examination or against those teachers who refuse to sit for the examination,” the KJDSTA president said.
He also wondered why the MBoSE had issued the notification since the Board was not connected with the process of recruitment of teachers. “The State Government which is responsible for the recruitment of teachers should have been the one to issue the notification,” Nongsiang said, while claiming that the Central Government had never issued any directive to the State Governments for implementation of the NCTE specifications.
“The Centre had only issued an advisory,” Nongsiang claimed.
The KJDSTA president also wondered why the State Government had suddenly decided to implement the NCTE guidelines.
Nongsiang also stated that a better option was to hold in service trainings for the teachers to improve and upgrade their teaching skills.
The KJDSTA president, meanwhile, warned that the teachers would not participate in any initiative taken by the MBoSE in future if they continued to come up with such kinds of notifications that were detrimental to the interest of the teachers in the State.
